The Faculty of Mathematics of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile is proud to host Probabilistic and Inferential Aspects of Skew-Symmetric Models: A Workshop in Honour of Adelchi Azzalini´s 60th Birthday.
The IV Skew Workshop is an international meeting whose main goal is to disseminate recent developments of skew-symmetric models to the statistical community. The meeting also offers an opportunity to create an environment for new scientific collaborations, to have contact with productive (international and national) researchers and to introduce students to this area of research.
The IV Skew Workshop will be held in Santiago de Chile at the Faculty of Mathematics, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile from May 16th to May 19th, 2011.
This meeting is dedicated to Professor Adelchi Azzalini, the pioneer of the field of skew-symmetric models, to honour his many contributions to this area of research and to Statistics in general, as well as to celebrate his 60th birthday! Professor Azzalini received his Ph.D. in 1981 from Imperial College in London under the direction of Sir David Cox. He joined the Department of Statistics at the University of Padova in Italy as a researcher in 1981 and he has been a professor at this institution since 1986. Professor Azzalini started the field of skew-normal and related distributions with his seminal paper in 1985 (A Class of Distributions which Includes the Normal Ones. Scand. J. Statist., Vol.12, 171-178) and with his many subsequent articles.
More details can be found in Professor Azzalini's CV here.
